Do you ever look at your closet and think to yourself "I have nothing to wear."? Me too. Pretty much every day of my life that I can remember. I've come to a conclusion as to why that happens to me and probably some of you too. My conclusion is that I love fashion. And that basically means when I walk into the store I gravitate towards the most unique, crazy, patterned thing in my sight. But you see, that is not practical for a few reasons. Mainly because those super fun colorful patterned pants probably will only match with (if you're lucky) one, maybe two things you already have in your closet. Also in my personal and humble opinion anyone can pull off the basics. There's a reason the little black dress never goes out of style, it looks great on anyone and can be worn a number of ways! So there you have it, I need to get back to the basics ladies and gentlemen! I'm not a fan of this saying, but seriously the struggle is real!!
So I have decided to make some changes in both the way I dress and the way I live (the living part did not stem from my closet though). I went fall shopping earlier this week and picked up a ton of adorable new things for my wardrobe (which I cannot wait to share with you guys very soon!!!). But I limited myself. My simple rule was I could only buy what we all like to call "basics," things I can wear in an unlimited number of ways with a ton of the things I already have in my closet! And one of my favorites basics that I stocked up on is t-shirts, which we are going to talk a little about today (just keep reading til the end!!).
It's kind of a strange comparison to be made, but as I have been thinking so much about focusing on simpler things in fashion I've also been thinking a lot about the simpler things in life lately. My life is right where I want it to be. But something is still missing. I've always lived by the saying "Be Kind, Work Hard, and Amazing things will happen." Well, lately I haven't really been living up to my motto. Being in college and still living at home, it's like I'm stuck in the lazy summer lull. But Fall is upon us and I need to get my act together my friends. So Internet I'm pledging to you that I am going to start working harder, on spending more time working on Something Shannon, on my school work, on my friendships, and on myself. It's time to wake up and get back to my daily life!
And finally if you didn't click this post to hear me vent about how much I love/hate fashion and how I'm going to work on changing the way I'm living for the millionth time, I want to share the three t-shirts everyone should have in their closet for this fall season! Here ya go!!
The Super Basic Tee
The OG of tee's, the classic cotton scoop neck! IF you do not yet own anything of this kind please do yourself a favor and just run to Target now. Although these are my three t-shirt recommendations for Fall I have to say a neutral tee shirt like this is the must have all year round. They can be worn up or down, with a skirt, jeans or leggings. My favorite pairing for the chillier months is with a cozy cardigan and leggings!
A simple V neckline adds so much class to the simplest of looks. I always find myself picking up my favorite V's to pair with a blazer or mid length necklace! Like the previously mentioned tee this one is also super versatile in terms of dressing it up or down, it's so easy to pair V necks with patterned skirts and pants or a simple pair of jeans with a cardigan!
The Mock Neck
With the chilly weather coming our way mock necks are everywhere, and a mock neck tee (or quarter length sleeve) is perfect for Fall! I picked up the most simple nude colored one earlier this week and I'm excited to play with it in my wardrobe this season! Pair with a classic trench coat and a statement necklace to make a simple look super glam.
Also, I'm totally considering doing a trail run of a "capsule wardrobe." Any thoughts?!
