1.) Look in the mirror and compliment yourself out loud
Be like Nike, just do it. I mean it. For real, it might be awkward at first, but let’s be real you talk to yourself all the time! So look in the mirror every morning and give yourself a compliment OUT LOUD.
“Hey, girlfriend, your hair looks really good today. And you really kicked butt on yesterday’s math test. You look fire in these jeans. This eyeshadow makes your eyes look gorgeous. You are BEAUTIFUL.”
2.) And also, accept compliments from others
The next time I hear “oh no, you’re crazy!” Or “oh no I’m a mess today” when I tell another girl she looks good or I like her outfit, I AM GOING TO LOSE MY MARBLES. What’s so hard about saying thank you instead? Why do you have to make an excuse, find a reason for why the compliment you’ve been given isn’t true?
3.) Uplift Yourself
And by this I mean surround yourself with positivity, positive people, positive resources. If the pretty fitness blogger on Instagram doesn’t lift you up, unfollow. If beauty vloggers aren’t your thing, unsubscribe. If your high school friend brings you down, distance yourself. If someone or something doesn’t make you feel good about yourself, if it doesn’t lift you up, if it doesn’t give you confidence, you don’t need it in your life. Follow accounts on social media that lift you up, spend time with people who lift you up, surround yourself with POSITIVITY.
4.) Wear What Makes You Feel Good
Girl, if you feel beautiful with eyeliner, wear the eyeliner. Heck, get it tattooed on. If you look in the mirror and see a hot mama staring back at you in skinny jeans, wear the skinniest skinny jeans. If you feel more confident in a sweatshirt and leggings, wear them! Leggings ARE pants, I don’t care what anyone says. We need to do MORE of what makes us feel good. And we can’t let society define what that is for us.
5.) Give Yourself Grace
You are not perfect. You will make mistakes. You will fall and you will rise again, my friend. Life is constantly changing and you cannot stop it. So, give yourself grace. When you get stuck in traffic, give yourself grace. When you get the flu, give yourself grace. When you don’t feel like wearing makeup on a Monday, give yourself grace.
