Hey, hey, hey! Happy Sunday! How was your weekend? I went to see Dan + Shay last night, soooo honestly mine was pretty great. I highly recommend going to see them in concert if you ever get the chance! They were 100% the best act I have EVER seen in my life. They are so ridiculously talented.
Anywayyyy, today I’m really excited to tell you guys all about one of my favorite 2nd (or, let’s be real...3rd or 4th…) day hairstyles! I have gotten so many requests to share more about my hair, how I do it, what products I use, etc. So don’t worry, I’ve got more up my sleeve! This is just the tip of the iceberg. And this style is so incredibly easy to achieve but super duper classy.
Okay, so first let’s talk a little bit about my haircare routine, just to give you some background because I know the same thing doesn’t work for everyone. This is just what I do! Growing up I always washed my hair every. single. day. And when I was twelve I definitely needed to. But as I’ve gotten older and busier I’ve actually found that washing my hair only two or three times a week works best for me. My hair type is actually fairly thick. I have pretty thin individual strands of hair, but I have a LOT of them. My hairdresser would agree. I also have a really dry scalp, especially in the winter. (If you have oily hair/skin, you probably think I’m crazy! And I’m so sorry you have to wash your hair daily!)
So a couple of times a week I wash my hair, let it completely air-dry, spray some heat protectant, and then curl it with my go-to Hot Tools wand. I’ve been using this same exact wand for over 5 years and it’s still in great condition. I have the 1.25 inch wand and it works perfectly for my hair when it’s short or long. I can’t recommend it enough if you want loose big curls like mine. I finish off my curls with a few good sprays favorite hairspray. I’m a ride-or-die Tresemme hairspray gal. I always use the level 4 EXTRA hold, it keeps my curls from falling flat but doesn’t feel crunchy at all (unless you use like half the bottle). Plus it smells good and comes in a huge bottle that will last a couple of months!
This ponytail style is seriously SO easy you guys! I love putting my hair up like this when I’m in a rush or my hair is starting to look ratty after a few days. It’s as simple as this…
First things first grab a hair-tie, or whatever you call it, and a bobby pin or two. It’s probably best to use one that’s close to your hair color, but let’s be real I typically just use black. Before you pull your hair up grab about a ½-1 inch thick piece of hair from the side of your head and leave it out. Then, simply pull your hair up into a high pony, smooth out those bumpies, and secure with the hair-tie.
Once your hairs up grab the piece you left out and simply wrap it around the base of the ponytail, from underneath, so it covers the hair-tie. (See why it would make sense to use one that is similar to your hair color?) You want to make sure to leave about an inch of the end of your hair is on the underside of your pony. From there simply make sure it’s tight, check that the hair-tie is covered, and secure the end of the hair to the back of your head with one or two bobby pins. Spray a boat-load hair spray on the area and TA-DA! Super easy right!? If you want to jazz things up a little more you can always tease your pony a little to add volume!
I really hope this post was helpful and actually made sense, I’m by NO means a hair expert!!! Honestly, I’m the worst at doing almost anything with hair!
