Hello Everyone! With the start of a New Year comes the start of monthly favorites here at Something Shannon! I know, I know, everyone does them. But I find that no matter how overused this idea is, it never goes out of style and never fails. I can hardly believe we are already a full month into 2016!
My face went through some pretty big changes this month as I started using a new foundation and primer. I’m so excited about both products, mostly because they are from one of my favorite and most trusted brands, Benefit.
Benefit Hello Flawless Oxygen WOW Foundation
I’ve been wanting to try this for a while now as I used their BB Cream tinted moisturizer for over two years. Although I still love that product lately I’ve been itching for some heavier coverage. So far I’m pretty impressed with the foundation! The formula is liquid and comes in a nice pump bottle, I went with the shade Petal which is second to lightest (I’m white as a ghost). It feels very light on your skin and goes on nicely with a brush for a natural looking finish.
Benefit Porefessional Face Primer
I received this product in a sample size earlier this month with a recent purchase from Sephora and I admit the raving reviews I have seen are spot on! I really love this stuff. I’ve piddled with various face primers before because, well obviously, I want my makeup to last longer. But the other options I have tried (both high end and drugstore) have either been too thick or grainy. Therefore I am quite impressed with the formula of this stuff. It’s very light on your skin yet leaves it feeling silky soft. I have found that my makeup lasts so much better on days I use this primer. Plus it smells incredible! The only downside is it is a little oily for my skin (which is already oily) but it’s nothing a little powder and blotting sheets can’t fix.
Onto the lippie favorites of the month! If there is one thing you all should know about me (if you haven’t caught on yet), I am a huge lip product junkie. It started with those clear glosses in Pre-K and has accelerated from there. I have recently began my collection of high end lip products and I am head over heels!
E.l.f Lip Exfoliator
Despite E.l.f’s low end price I have always been a pretty big fan of most of their products. So I was really interested when my friend told me about this little guy. It’s a lip exfoliator in the form on a lipstick! I had never heard of anything like it before! You simply apply it like a lipstick and then rinse it off. I like how you don’t have to get your fingers all dirty in the exfoliator pots! It’s a great on the go alternative, plus it smells like cinnamon sugar!
NYX Matte Lip Cream
Yes, I know I talk about NYX lip products so much! But really they are worth talking about. I have been a big fan of their butter glosses and lipstick for a while so I was so excited to finally get my hands on this! I heard quite a few good reviews about them, and without a doubt they have exceeded my expectations. Matte lipstick never seems to dry right on my lips but I love how evenly this does. The only downside is it does require quite a bit of re-application.
Mac Lipstick in Speak Louder
This is only my 2nd Mac purchase, it pains me to say. But I am so excited to add more of these lipsticks to my collection. I feel like I don’t even need to talk too much about this because everyone knows they are great! I specifically adore this color though, it’s a nice in between shade that’s suitable for nice events and casual ones.
For my eyes this month I’m sure you already know what I’m going to say. My favorite eye product of the month is without a doubt the palette of all palettes, the best christmas present of the century, of course…
Tarelette’s In Bloom Palette
Do I need say more? It’s beautiful array of colors have been on my eyes every day since Christmas and I don’t think I will be reaching for anything else anytime soon. For a full review check out my recent post here!
And finally onto my other beauty favorites of the month! Througout these cold days my skin has really been feeling the heat (or cold if you will). It’s been super dry and irritated, but these products have been saving me day in and day out.
Garnier Blackhead Eliminating Scrub
My mom told me about this product a while back and I received a travel size sample in my stocking this Christmas. I’m pretty picky about my face cleansers and scrubs so I wasn’t expecting much, but turns out I am hooked! This product is the perfect charcoal scrub formula. It’s not too harsh, not to light and it gets a little foamy while I wash (which always seems to make me feel like I’m getting a cleaner wash).
Lush’s Coffee Mask
I am so obsessed with this mask! Maybe it’s because I recently stopped drinking coffee, but the smell is heavenly and it feels wonderful on my skin! I love taking a long bath with this on my face and body. It’s super exfoliating and leaves my skin baby soft.
What were your favorite products of January?
