Happy Wednesday Everyone!
You guys asked and I listened! In a recent Twitter poll the majority of people said they would like to see more DIY posts up on the blog and I'm so excited to start the crafting! I love your feedback so never hesitate to email me (email@example.com) or DM me on social media! Over the last few weeks I have been super busy planning the party of the century (my graduation party) and I have been going a little DIY crazy. So today I want to share the quickest and easiest DIY I have ever done, cake stands! Seriously why buy them in stores when you can make the cutest ones for just a few dollars. Alright, lets get to it!
For this project the supplies are plain and super simple, you will need:
-A glue gun
-A pretty plate
-A candle stick
I picked my candle sticks and plates up at a local thrift store (all were under $1 each). I was surprised by how many cute vintage plates I found! Also if you don't have one you can up a little glue gun at your local craft store or even Walmart for around $10. As far as the plates go I would recommend a thin plate. The thicker ones tend to be heavier and may break off the candle stick much easier. Also for the candle stick make sure the top is thick enough in size so it can easily support the weight of the plate.
To put your cake stand together simply apply a decent amount of hot glue to the top of the candle stick and press it onto the middle of the back of the plate. And you're done! Yes that's right, that's all you do! Just be sure to turn your plate upside down before glueing the pieces together and let it dry for at least a few minutes! I guessed at the middle on mine, but if you want to be prescise with the placement use a small tape measure to find the center.
Here's a few ideas to add a little extra *flair* to your cake stands:
-Spray paint your candle sticks
-Tie some ribbon
-Add lace around the bottom
-Hand crystal beads around the edges
-Add flowers around the bottom
I'm so excited to display desserts on my stands during my party but thee stands have so many uses: display cakes, cupcakes, cookies, etc at parties, OR even use them on your vanity or counters! They double as a beautiful decoration and space saver. Britta & Carli from Twinspiration recommended this decorating technique in a video I watched a while back and I have loved the idea every since! (Be sure to check them out by the way!) You can use them to hold keys, makeup, jewelry, etc. Even add a cute tea cup or mug on top to place earrings or change in.
If you try this project I would love to see your pictures! Email them to me or tag me in social media!!
(Also, I would avoid machine washing these stands as they could break apart. Hand wash only!)
