It has been the craziest week in the absolute best way. You know, the kind of week where you don’t have time to wash your hair when you probably should, you wake up with a sore throat you’re so low on sleep, and as hectic as it is, you love every single moment of it. I’m just so darn blessed. But I am kind of excited to get back on schedule, back into the swing of things because I have gotten SO off track. I’ve got a long list of things to check off my list! And I’ve got a bunch of fun things I’ve been loving to share with you today including the softest pajamas I have EVER put on my body!Read More
Last week I did a few polls on the ‘gram to find out what YOU wanted to see from me in 2019 and I was shocked, but a little excited to see that quite a few of you wanted to see more beauty related content on the blog this year! Little known fun fact, SS started as a beauty blog back in 2014 when I thought I was going to be the next Jaclyn Hill. (High school Shannon was something else…)
It’s starting to really feel like winter this week so I thought I’d share a few of my favorite products for when the weather is freezing cold, when your lips are chapped like leather, and skin’s cracking it’s so dry. The products I’m sharing today are my tried and true!
I am SUPER picky with hand lotions. I’ve always had super dry skin in the winter, but I HATE when I put on a lotion and my hands feel wet or oily. My ride-or-die hand cream for years now has been the Soap & Glory Hand Food. It’s so good!! It nourishes the skin so nicely, but soaks in right away never leaving my hands feeling oily at all. Plus I love the scent, it’s really girly but not overpowering at all.
For when my skin is REALLY dry I always turn to the First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream. This stuff is honestly my go-to for everything. I use it on my face, my legs, my hands, all over my body. I have seriously gone through so many of these bad boys! It’s the most moisturizing lotion I’ve ever used, and it’s unscented. I highly recommend this option if you have sensitive skin.
When the weather warms up a little and my face isn’t feeling exactly like a raisin I like to go for a slightly lighter, but still moisturizing alternative. The Glossier Moisturizing Primer has been another go-to winter skin care staple of mine for several years. Glossier is one of my absolute favorite brands of all time! Their brand is so unique and I have loved every single product I’ve tried by them. (The Milk-Jelly Cleanser is my everyday face wash!!) This primer is perfect in every way, I apply it daily under my makeup. It puts the life back into my winter skin, but isn’t nearly as thick as the Ultra Repair Cream.
In the winter especially, I absolutely have to have a few good lip balms with me at ALL times. I live on ultra nourishing balms, and this season I’ve actually came across a new favorite. I’ve fallen in love with the Rosebud Perfume Co. Strawberry Lip Balm. I’ll be honest, I needed to throw one more thing in my cart at Sephora for free shipping and this $8 tin of lip-balm just happened to catch my eye. I had absolutely no intentions to love this stuff, but it is quickly becoming my new favorite! It works wonders on my lips and it’s strawberry scent takes me right back to my 2002 Barbie doll days. It’s like lip smackers for adults!!!!
With that said I can’t not mention my other lip-care favs. A classic forever, I’ll never stop loving Burt’s Bees balms. I definitely favor salves/thicker balms to chapstick, but Burt’s Bees is the only brand I’ll use in chapstick form. My go-to scent is always and forever Pear & Coconut, it smells like a tropical vacation and nourishes my broken lips with the classic formula. And like I mentioned earlier, Glossier does it RIGHT. And they do it really right with their Balm Dot Com lip salves. These babies pack hard core moisture, the scents are delicious, and they are also safe to use on other areas of your body, as a “universal salve” (dry elbows no more).
Alrighty guys! That’s all I’ve got for today! I hope 2019 has been great for you so far. I don’t know what it is, but I have a really good feeling about this year. God is so so good.
What are your fav products for the bitter cold?
Tonight I want to tell you guys about my absolute favorite face mask of the moment! No, it's not from Sephora. It's not $50 or even $20! This mask is from the drug store and costs around $10 a pop! I'm talking about the L'Oreal Pure Clay Red Algea exfoliating mask. L'Oreal released their "pure-clay" masks a few months ago now and they have been a hit among the beauty community. The line includes three masks, housed in a simple glass jar, that serve different purposes for your skin. I can't wait to try the other two, but lately I have been OBSESSED with the exfoliating red algae mask. When jack frost comes nipping at my door my face becomes an unpredictable mess! But, since I started using this mask I've noticed a little more consistency in my skin and much less dryness. It feels so nice and fresh on the skin and exfoliates in a very gentle manner. I highly recommend checking it out soon!
Hope you're having a lovely Tuesday! I get to go to the city tomorrow!! I'll be updating on Snapchat, I promise. (Add me at somethingshan)
