Hello Lovlies! Wow. It feels good it to be typing that again! I've missed you all so much over the last few weeks. With the craziness of my life right now I felt like I would never get back on track with blogging and life in general, and although my life is still crazy I think I'm finally getting there. So where have I been? Mostly I've been on vacation. (Poor me!) For two weeks my family went out to Colorado, Montana and Wyoming, then over fourth of July we spent a few days in Wisconsin, finally the last couple days I've been staying with some special people in my life as one of them just had surgery. So why haven't I been blogging? Three main reasons, 1: No WiFi, 2: I broke my phone (Life's over I know!), 3: I've been busy living my life.
I planned on blogging along the way, I really did. I had four posts all made up ready for editing and posting but then the events I listed above happened. I honestly felt like I just needed a break from it all and I felt like this was God's sign. So I took full advantage of it, and I prayed that the social media world, my friends and viewers would forgive me. And as I checked my views and followers this week I realized my prayer had been answered. Somehow I managed to lose very few followers and I was shocked to see that the last few days have been pretty busy on the blog.
So thank you for that, thank you for being the wonderful people you are and recognizing me as being human. I've said it before and I'm going to say it again. Blogging is hard. There's so many "perfect" blogs out there and it's hard sometimes to accept that Something Shannon will never be perfect, and no blog really is. I'm not and I don't want anyone who ever reads my posts to think I am. As I grow my little corner of the internet I feel so blessed for moments like these where I realize how many lessons I am learning. I will be getting a new phone (Iphone 6 plus!!) tomorrow and I will start posting photos on my Instgram and Twitter of my trips! Be sure to check it out, and again, thank you for stopping by. Now let's get on with the program! It's already July 7th! So check out my June favorites below.
June just didn't exist. I have come to that conclusion because man, did it flyyyy by! But despite barely realizing a month went by I managed to add a few serious staples to my routine. (Plus I STOCKED up on flowers, these little dollar stores bouquets are the bomb.com) Really, all of this month's favorites are quickly becoming cult favorites, plus they're all drug store products! Don't be surprised if they're all in my yearly favorites of 2016! Alright lets go00o....
So these little gems have been a favorite among the beauty community for ages now. But if you are still unfamiliar go pick one up now!!! Seriously, they are fantastic. Not only do they have incredible pigment and shimmer, they also act as a primer for your lid and blend beautifully with powder shadows. The popular shade Bad to the Bronze has been in my collection for quite some time now and for some reason I hadn't picked up any others. But then I saw this! It is the most perfect, subtle, yellow gold eyeshadow I have ever used. Typically I go for browner gold tones (such as Bad to the Bronze), but this little one has seriously changed my mind. I've been using it to achieve a summery "sunset" look by pairing it with cool toned browns, (Tartelette in Bloom Palette's Smarty Pants and Jetsetter) and a light purple inner corner highlight (Physicians Formula Shimmer Strip in Miami Strip top highlight shade).
Annnnd for blending your entire shadow look I give you the cheapest, best brush I have ever used! Oh my gosh you guys this brush is fantastic. I'm at a loss of words. I just love it so much. Okay...sorry my moments over! But really, you cannot beat this brush it is perfect for applying product all over the lid, applying product into your crease and blending out your whole look. I really didn't have too high of expectations when I saw these, I mean it's 99 cents. But I was blown away by how soft and flexible the bristles are and how nicely it applies product. Plus it washes very easily and has maybe lost two little hairs in it's solid month of use. I actually went out and bought a backup because I have been using it every single day since I got it! I have yet to try any other brush from the collection but I'm excited too, the only downsides I have so far are that the brushes themselves aren't labeled (only the packaging is) and also they're so hard to find! I picked this one up at Meijer but even there I could only find three brushes from the collection.
So I picked this up a while back after reading an article about lining/filling your lips with a nude pencil...turns out it didn't work and made my lips super dry but anyway...I was pretty happy when I found a use for this pencil because it wasn't that I didn't like it. It just did not work on my lips or my skin. But it works fantastic for lining my lower water line, and looks great too! I'm not big on applying dark pencils to my lower lash line/water line because my eyes water like crazy and eventually it will be running down my face. Applying this to my water line makes my eyes look so much bigger and brighter without the black streaks!
I found a bronzer that works with my skin!!! Pale girls I'm talking to you! I feel your pain! Finding a bronzer that doesn't make me look like I'm either orange or dirty is next to impossible but Physicians Formula has gone and done it. There is so much I love about this bronzer, first of all look that packaging! Not only is it cute it's also handy with it's little push button and inner mirror. I also don't even hate the little sponge applicator it comes with! Other than that this product makes me smell like I bathed in the coconut, feels sooo soft and adds the perfect amount of color to my skin for the warmer months! Despite being pricier than the average drug store find this is definitely a cult favorite from now on! (Also to save some $$$, I've seen 40% Physicians Formula at Ulta and a few grocery stores many times!)
I'm sorry if I offend all those beauty blender lovers out there but I was honestly not impressed with the real thing. Ulta's version on the other hand, that's another story. Actually it really is a story so I'm going to tell it to you! A couple Christmas' ago my mom bought me a 2 pack of the Ulta sponges just like this one (except they were pink and purple). I used them foreverrrr because I loved them so much and then Ulta then stopped selling them! But a few weeks ago, walking around the store I became ecstatic when I saw the Ulta duo again! There's something about the material of these sponges that I prefer over the original beauty blender, it's softer and seems to soak up/squeeze out water better than the blender. Also it's quite a bit larger and has a slightly different shape that really allows me to get in all the little nooks and crannies. Plus my beauty blender's tip quickly reshaped from holding it in my hand making it harder to work with, these haven't lost their shape at all! I will be stocking up again soon in case they vanish again and I suggest any makeup sponge lover checks these out too! They're worth it!
If you haven't seen the Kathleen Lights video where she realizes this mascara is actually magic go watch it now please: Click Here! (She talks about the mascara at 11:38)
You watched it right?! Is your mind blown? Cause mine really is. Any who, I love Drew Barrymore so I was pretty excited when I saw she came out with an exclusive line at Walmart. So far this is the only thing I've tried but the line looks pretty awesome (if you have any recommendations tweet me! message me! comment!). So if you were a cheater and read ahead without watching the video let me explain what this mascara is all about, basically it's a three in one mascara as it allows you to apply the formula with a wand that is either long and lengthening, slightly twisted and curling or very twisted and volumizing. How does this happen you may ask? Well the top of the cap twists and the more you twist the more the wand changes from straight to twisty! Here's a photo to show the difference with twists...
Blonde moment: "Twist 1" really isn't a twist. This is just what it looks like before you begin twisting...
But beyond the really sweet wand I have actually been impressed with the mascara. I have pretty short/thin eyelashes and the first time I applied this I ran to my mom and yelled "MY LASHES HAVE NEVER LOOKED SO VOLUMIZED." I may have exaggerated a wee bit but they really did look good. Plus the packaging is gold. A+ in my book Drew! My only little bitty complaints are the product does run out fairly quickly making it apply less voluminous and the formula is not waterproof, but still does stay on very well!
What would you like to see more of here on Something Shannon? I'd love to hear from you! Check out my social media links or send me a comment below!
Enjoy your Thursday!
