7 things I learned in High School

update As my friends head off in their different directions and I begin my own new journey of college I've been thinking a lot about how my life has changed since my first day of high school four years ago. Going out to dinner with two of my best friends the other night we talked a lot about our friendships, our lives and what we've learned. So I figured I would sum it up for you guys as the new school year begins! Wheather you're just starting high school as a freshman, going back for another year, starting college or looking back years later I think we can all agree high school teaches us a lot about life. So here's what I learned! And here's a pic of my great night out with two of my best friends Allie and Kim, check out Kim's travel/lifestyle blog here!

1.) Never be too nice

I always try my very very hardest to be a kind person whatever the cost. But I have learned over the last few years that the saying "b*tches get things done" may have some merit. I don't mean to actually treat people badly, ever. But have a back bone, don't let anyone walk all over you. Being strong and believing in yourself is what will get you to where you want to be in life!

2.) It's okay to not be okay

Yes I know this is one of those totally typical sayings but it's true. Something I learned a lot about in high school was that it's okay to be sad and to cry and to lay in bed with a bag of pototao chips watching netflix all day, once in a while. We all have bad days and although society often makes it difficult for us to accept it, it's okay to be sad. It's part of what helps us to grow and move on to bigger and better things.

3.) Good grades don't matter all that much

In all honesty, yes I had good grades througout school. I graduated with A's and B's, and a GPA I am very proud of. But in the grand scheme of life that C you got on your junior year Algebra final won't matter. I'm not saying don't try. Because you should try, try hard! Do your best. But if you don't get straight A's all the time it's okay. The world will keep spinning and you will continue living!

4.) People change

"I still believe people are really good at heart." -Anne Frank

But they do change. Friendships will crash and burn and crumble, and it's going to hurt. The girl down the street you grew up with all through elementry school? There's a chance she will be the one gossiping to everyone and spreading rumors behind your back. Β And even though it seems horrible in the moment it's going to teach you a lot about who your true friends are, the ones who will stick with you through everything.

5.) Teachers care, a lot

Even though it's hard to see it when they're pushing you to study for that big test or scolding you for talking in class. But one day you're going to look back and realize they just wanted to help you succeed.

6.) Those four years will be some of the best of your life

The people you meet, the things you do, you learn so much about yourself and the world in the 4 short years. I know some the friends I've made and the teachers I've built realtionships with will be important people in my life for years to come. High school is where you get the chance to really start writing your own story, so make the first chapter a great one!

7.) But there's better years to come

Although high school is great it's incredible to look ahead and realize that yes, high school was incredible, but the life ahead is greater than any of us could imagine. Life has so many beautiful moments waiting for you each and every day. Things like having a family and starting the career of my dreams propel me forward and make me so excited for the years to come. I know they will be the best ones of my life.

What did you learn in highschool?

Have a great start to the school year everyone!!
